11 LUGLIO - 5 OTTOBRE 2025 Museo Nazionale del Risorgimento Italiano, Torino

Curatela TIZIANA BONOMO, organizzazione ASSOCIAZIONE CULTURALE IMAGO MUNDI

What are you anticipating from this exhibition? You must be curious to discover a collection. Why did they gather the items together? What informed their choices? Discovering a collection is like visiting a new city, an unfamiliar place: a city of portraits. Whatever the order, each portrait holds a surprise! As you progress, the wonder leading to the story of each photographer, enshrined in every image unfolds before your eyes. Just as visiting a city first you come across a monument, then a palace, then a garden ... each with its own identity, a charmthat leads us to learn about its origins. One image leads to the next wondering how and why was the collection pieced together one imageat a time! But why does it attract us like this? Photography is mysterious and the image we see arousing our sensitivity, triggering memories, emotions, curiosity often leaving a lingering curiosity to discover it.

Each one of us must find an answer on their own, and certainly not seeking replies in complex training, postgraduate, or advanced courses: the language of photography, art, or information captures us so that gazing at it, speaking words of wonder, horror, strangeness outflow, incredible reality. We then read a name, discover an author, a time.Naturally, those who are versed in the history of photography and follow contemporary trends either through their profession, or out of passion will recognise the great masters, and a feverish excitement will lead them as they come across a true vintage Cartier Bresson, Boubat, Lewis Hine and then perhaps an unpublished image by Nan Goldin or Jules Caron. This type of training, of knowledge, enables you to appreciate its light, the paper, the quality of the print, and the print run. For instance, a beautiful city like Paris, consists of well-preserved historical areas as well as new modern districts with sculptures, palaces, arches that summon you to look at them, letting yourself be enchanted by their charm and then to look for undiscovered corners, walking along alleyways, seething in its aura. Likewise, the Bachelot collection thrills both the layperson and the specialist, those who say they understand nothing about photography and those who know everything about photography. Passion for the Bachelot Collection, sophisticated rigorous research that highlights a look on our humans, woven into myths, emotions, social and current spheres. The opportunity to see the portraits, part of the collection, is a means to share their journey with ours in absolute freedom.
